CS Ababu sponsors week-long training camp for Busia teams

The week-long training camp will involve all the Busia teams already qualified for the regional games set for Kakamega from July 17.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has offered to sponsor training camps for Busia county teams ahead of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association regional games.

The week-long training camp will involve all the Busia teams already qualified for the regional games set for Kakamega from July 17.

The CS, who graced the Busia county finals at Nambale Boys High School on Saturday, said the training will be key in boosting the morale of the players.

Ababu boosted the county's top-performing team with cash rewards. Boys' football champions John Osogo Secondary School and runners-up Madende received Sh25,000 each.

The girls' winners, St Joseph’s Chakol and runners-up, Katakwa, also pocketed Sh25,000 each.

The remaining teams received Sh50,000 to be shared amongst themselves with a similar amount going to the officials.

In addition, the CS also bought all the trophies awarded to teams at a cost of Sh400,000.

Other teams to represent Busia at the regionals include netball national defending champions Bumala AC and runners-up St Joseph’s Chakol.

Boys’ volleyball winners Sigalame High School and runners-up Butula National School as well as volleyball ladies’ winners Bumala AC and runners-up St Peter’s Busibi are also headed to Kakamega.
