The Nairobi Polo Club has entered a Sh3.9 million partnership with SBM Bank for the 2023/2024 polo season set to run from July to January 2024.

The sponsorship will also cover the international matches that will be held at the Nairobi Polo Club.

The Nairobi Polo Club chairman, Fred Kambo said, “Polo is very much a family sport but it's also a sport that lends itself to hospitality and friendship and we are glad to welcome anyone to join the family.”

Kambo is the head of the new committee at the Nairobi Polo Club which will serve for the next two seasons.

“The committee’s primary vision is to see more new players joining the sport and not just from Nairobi but also from other parts of the country,” Kambo said.

“We also want to see a higher uptake in handicaps from the players based in Nairobi,” he added.

“We are working on this by getting more international handicap players to come to spend time in Nairobi and help in schooling the horses.”

“We would also like to see more partnerships with other countries as we are already close to Zambia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom,” he said.

The Zambian women’s national team will play Kenya at the Nairobi Polo Club this weekend ahead of the Zambian men’s team visit in September.

SBM Bank CEO, Jotham Mutoka said the sport’s 116-year heritage in Kenya was a major reason for the collaboration and they aim at nothing less than growing the game of polo in Kenya.
