Kenya Police coach Patrick Mugambi believes mental strength will be key for his side to accomplish the 'revenge mission' against Western Jaguars in the Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier League.

A titanic battle is expected in Kakamega on July 29 and the law enforcers has promised fireworks at the Eregi Teachers Training College grounds, which is the Jaguars' home ground.

Police, the former league champions, lost twice against the Mike Malungu-coached Jaguars side last season.

"The result in Kakamega will really play a key role at the end of the season. We fired blanks against Jaguars last season but let them be prepared for the battle at their backyard," Mugambi said.

"We need to improve the mentality of the players so that they tackle the remaining matches with the right attitude. Revenge is the only way we can redeem ourselves," he added.

Jaguars are second in the 10-team league with 19 points, one point behind leaders and defending champions Butali Warriors.

Third-placed Police has 17 points after registering five wins, two draws and a loss from eight matches.

The top two teams at the end of the season will automatically qualify to play in the Africa Cup for Club Championships in Blantyre, Malawi later in the year.

"Malawi is in our mind. Police will even be a tougher opponent in the second leg. I expect Robert Masibo to play a part in the match," Mugambi said.

Masibo has been away in Germany for a professional stint.
