Namwela boys are banking on thorough preparations to retain the Western Region Secondary Schools volleyball title according to coach Isaac Muresia.

The four-day regional games that involves Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia and hosts Kakamega County, are set for Kakamega starting Wednesday.

“Our preparations are in top gear and we expect nothing but good results. The boys are so ready for the challenge,” Muresia said.

The Bungoma County-based school lost the national title to Cheptil last year in a five-set thriller match.

Namwela headline pool 'A' that also has Sigalame, Mwitoti and Vihiga boys.

Multiple national champions Malava boys highlight pool 'B'. Bungoma's Teremi, Butula of Busia and Chavavo from Vihiga complete the group.

“As much as our focus is on defending the regional title, we have our eyes fixed on winning the national crown, Muresia added.

Namwela finished fourth at the East Africa School Games last year.

“It won't be a walk in the park knowing that all teams are well prepared. We will have to take one match at a time, Muresia cautioned.

“We enjoy playing against tougher opposition. They always inspire us to bring our A game," the tactician pointed out.

In the girls' cadre, Bumala, Miruri, Mwitoti and Chavavo are in pool 'A'.

Pool' B' contains Busibi (Busia), Lugulu (Bungoma), Butere (Kakamega) and Madzuu (Vihiga).
