Fourteen counties converge in Kitale this week for the Rift Valley Primary Schools Sports Association (RVPSSA) ball games.
Speaking in Kitale on Monday, RVPSSA chairman Peter Sang said they expect stiff competition among the counties.
Sang said it's all systems go in readiness for the primary school games, which will run from Wednesday to Saturday across various institutions of learning in Trans Nzoia.
“We have put all the necessary measures in place to ensure the young boys and girls enjoy their talents. As we speak, we are done with all the preparations and we expect teams to arrive today (Tuesday) ready for the big show,” said Sang.
He admitted they are suffering financially as they have not received any sponsorship from the corporate world.
Sang said institutions, which have been funding the games through Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) are yet to confirm this year.
He, however, admitted receiving some funding from the host county of Trans Nzoia. According to the calendar of events, the boys and girls will feature in football, handball, volleyball, and netball (girls only).
“Our guest of honour will be Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya who has supported the championships. The county has really supported us and we are calling on other sponsors to come on board," he added.
Counties expected for the event are Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho and Bomet.
