Madira Girls have vowed to clinch the national football title when the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association games go down in Kakamega next week.

Madira, also known as Assassins, finished second at the county games, behind Maroons of Ibubi girls.

They also finished second at the regional level after falling to Butere Girls.

Assassins' top scorer Leah Nekesa said: "We have nothing else to look at but the trophy at Bukhungu Stadium. We are committed, focused and ready for the challenge ahead."

They are in Pool 'B' alongside Lwak Girls, Mbitini and Uyeta while Pool 'A' has Butere, Dagoreti, Njabini and Komboni.

Madira High principal Mildred Selenwa said they have given the girls the best possible training ahead of the championships.

"We have done our best to ensure the girls get what they want ahead of the tournament," the principal said.

"Our girls are determined and they have said they will go by the school motto — read and play — to ensure they put our school on the Kenyan map."

Assassins are already qualified for the 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League after topping Division One Zone 'B'.

They will play Kibera Queens, Division One Zone 'A' winners, on Sunday to determine the overall second-tier winner.

Assassins are also in the running for the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Vihiga county title, where they face Maroons in Saturday's final.
