Kenya’s Michael Karanga ended up sixth after posting one over par 73 in the just concluded Egypt Amateur Open Championships at the par 72 El Gouna Golf Club in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday evening.
The 4th and final score earned the Kiambu golfer a total of level par 216 in the three-day, where he tied with the Moroccan Youssef El Hali and Abderhamane Fakori on the same points.
Swiss international Marc Steinhauser, who was the Round One leader, and tied second with Karanga in Round Two, emerged victorious with four under par 212.
Karanga, who started off with joint third in Round One before moving to second in Round 2, sunk deep to sixth on the final day in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the continent.
In his last round, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships Series leader had three birdies in fifth, sixth, and ninth with all pars in the first nine holes for -3 33 in the first nine.
He had a bad start in the second nine, with bogeys in the 10th, 13th, 15th, and 16th with all pars in the remaining holes for four over par 40 to drop in position.
