Bunyore Starlets' have unveiled a squad of 20 players ahead of the 2023/2024 Kenya Women's Premier League (KWPL) season that gets underway this weekend.
While unveiling the new playing unit, the club's chief executive officer, Zakaria Amakhana said the new signings will propel the club to another level.
“We gambled a lot in the last two seasons but we hope to change things as we continue to strengthen the team under the guidance of our coach Timothy Ondeko,” Amakhana said.
The new signings include Yvone Muyoka from lbubi Girls, Esther Miregwa (Rongai Eagles), Juliana Kaupe (Solasa Stima Queens), Rebecca Misango(Kakamega Starlets) and Agnes Olesi (FCK Queens).
Others are Eve Chemutai (FCK Queens), Ruth Nabwire (Kayole Starlets), Euphrasia Khakasi (Vihiga Queens), Caroline Muhati (Royal Starlets), Abigael Munde (Kafa Ladies), Cynthia Okwado (Wadadia), Merceline Wabukhe (Gene Queens) and Jackline Ekitela (Bartolimo).
Also in the squad are —Pauline Mzungu (Nyuki Starlets) and Christabel Mungeresa (Vihiga Leeds), Alice Ochanji-Kolwa (Falcon), Tracy Awuor (Royal Starlets), Jemeli Vicky Korir (Murang'a Queens), Vyne Taaka (Nyuki Starlets) and Purity Kaleji (unattached).
Captain Cynthia Khavaya, former captain Prisca Ambale, striker Maria Ambila, midfielder Lucky Achando and Milicent Ogenge, Faith Amutu, Sharon Amayi, Stella Adiao and Susan Muhonja have left the club.
Khavaya, Ambila, and Achando have joined Kebera Women's while Ambale has yet to make up her mind on the next destination.
"A few teams have approached me but I am still weighing options," Ambale said. Alumasi will captain the new squad. “We have appointed Alumasi to take over as the new captain of the 2023/2024 season,” the CEO said.
Bunyore are set to kick off the season with Gaspo Ladies at Stima Sacco in Nairobi this weekend.
