KCB Women's head coach, Japhet Munala said his goal is to maintain Kenya's number-one ranking even as he was re-appointed Malkia Strikers coach.

Munala had served as the head coach of Malkia Strikers during the 2018 World Championships in Japan.

Additionally, he worked as the assistant coach alongside David Lung'aho, contributing to their victory in the World Grand Prix Group 3 in Australia in 2015.

The veteran coach is set to lead Malkia Strikers in the East African Community Games set to take place in Rwanda from November 20-30.

''Kenya is ranked number one in Africa and when we go to Rwanda, we will ensure we don't fall short of that,'' he added.

The tactician said:''I have been with Malkia for a very long time. I was reappointed not once or twice so it is like a continuity. It is not a new challenge for me. I treat it as a relay because I have been back and forth with the team," he said.

He guided the KCB Women's team to the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) national league title during the playoffs earlier this month.

The bankers had beaten Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in the final to win the title that had eluded them for 15 years.

Munala will be assisted by the Kenya Prisons women's team coach Josp Baraza and Paul Gitau, who led Kenya Pipeline to a second-place finish in the KVF playoffs.

The men's national team will be under the guidance of Gideon Tarus from the General Service Unit, supported by Elisha Aliwa and Denis Mokua.

Mokua, who was recently appointed as the head coach of Kenya Prisons Men, played a pivotal role alongside veteran coach David Lung'aho in securing Prisons Men's first league title in seven years. Kenya Prisons beat GSU 3-2 in the KVF playoffs.

Aliwa, on the other hand, is the head coach of Kenya Defence Forces and was the team's trainer during the Africa Nations Championships in Egypt last month.

Managing both the men's and women's teams will be Deputy Secretary-general, John Odhiambo.

KVF Secretary General Ismael Chege stated that these appointments were swiftly confirmed during a meeting by the KVF National Executive Committee.

''We believe that these appointments will contribute to the success of our teams in these upcoming competitions,'' said Chege.

In beach volleyball events in Mombasa, Patrick Owino will continue as the head coach for the men's team, while Sally Wanjala will lead the women's team.

Chege expressed gratitude for the dedication and commitment shown by the coaches and players and looked forward to achieving outstanding results in both the East African Community Games and the Beach Volleyball events.
