Kirinyaga head coach Shem Ondieki has urged his charges to remain level-headed in the wake of their amazing two-game winning streak at the ongoing Talenta Hela U-19 football tournament in Nyeri County.
The Caf B holder spoke after his squad pulled off an entertaining display of tactics to register a hard-fought 1-0 win over talent-laden Mandera.
Ondieki, however, chided his players for squandering numerous goal-scoring opportunities, claiming they ought to have won the match emphatically if they had leveraged all the chances they created.
"The win is okay but we lost a lot of chances and failed to achieve what we had planned. There were incidents of concentration lapse and lack of consistency in delivery," Ondieki said.
"We are meeting Uasin Gishu and Kwale counties next and we shall approach the two teams with every respect they deserve. I can't underrate any team in the tournament because football is a 90-minute game," Ondieki said.
Mandera head coach Abdi Ali said they were simply unfortunate to lose a match where his charges displayed unmatched technical ability.
"Sometimes you lose and that's the norm in sports. I just feel we were unfortunate in the match because we had a better game," Ali said.
"The group is still open because we are level on six points with both Uasin Gishu and Kirinyaga. This means we still have a glorious chance to proceed to the next level of the competition," Ali said.
Mandera have amassed the six points after cruising past Kwale and Nairobi, and need just a solitary point in their last group match against Uasin Gishu to make the top two in the group and qualify for the nationals.
