Masinde Muliro head of sports Geoffrey Barasa is optimistic of a podium at the ninth edition of Kenya Universities Sports Federation games which started at the University of Nairobi grounds on Monday morning.

Masinde Muliro's main target is racquet games and athletics as they eye podium finishes in all of the disciplines they enter.

“We are confident of finishing in the medal brackets in all the events we are entering teams and, hopefully, we can finish in the top four in the overall rankings,” said Barasa.

Due to disruptions by ongoing examinations, Barasa said MMUST will only enter teams in athletics, scrabble, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis (women), chess (men), karate (women) and badminton (men).

He said they are going to give chances to some of their upcoming players as they seek experience ahead of a busy 2024 season.

“We shall rely on junior and upcoming players in readiness for next year's events,” he said.

The games will feature football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, handball, netball, athletics, swimming, karate, taekwondo, chess, badminton, scrabble, darts, table tennis, tennis, rugby, woodball and roll ball.
