Tusker players celebrate

Tusker head coach Robert Matano reckons his charges have ultimately found their footing on the top-flight stage following their second consecutive win on Wednesday.

Matano spoke after the Ruaraka-based beer-makers surmounted an abrasive challenge to wring out a narrow 1-0 win over  Police FC at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

"We had a brilliant game and gave a good account of ourselves. We could have extended our lead further if we had made good use of all our chances," Matano remarked.

"We've experienced a rough patch in our recent outings and emerging from this match with maximum points is a big plus for us," he added.

The outcome has Tusker sixth on the log with 25 points, only six adrift of leader Gor Mahia.

"Our goal is to move to the contention zone. We have learned a lot since the start of the season and I believe we shall use the experience to improve our fortunes in the competition," Odero remarked.

Stand-in Police FC coach Idi Salim said they simply had a terrible day. "We were the better side throughout the encounter and we deserved to win, only that we proved pathetic in front of goal," Salim stated.

"The sooner we realise the importance of scoring goals, the better it will be for us. You don't win a match by simply stringing passes together and dominating possession. The result also matters," he added.

After a flurry of missed opportunities, Matano effected a triple substitution that changed the tide of the game.

The no-nonsense coach introduced Daniel Sakari, David Odoyo, and Stewart Omondi for Michael Oduor, Collins Odhiambo, and Levin Joseph respectively. It was not long before endless inroads into their opponent's attacking third finally bore fruits.

Fabian Adikiny latched onto a sumptuous pass on the edge of the area to burn a hole into Police net, grabbing a last-gasp win that took the Brewers' run to two wins in a row.

Elsewhere, Muhoroni Youth head coach Charles Odero lavished praise on his charges for securing maximum points against Sofapaka in their hotly-contested match yesterday.

Babu Tarrick's third-minute strike was all it took to separate the two top-flight minnows at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu County. The outcome left Muhoroni 14th on the log with 15 points—16 adrift of leaders Gor Mahia.

Sofapaka have experienced a torrid season and Wednesday's defeat left them second from the bottom of the standings with a paltry 14 points from 16 league encounters.

In another match, AFC Leopards squandered an early lead to settle for a one-all draw against Murang'a Seal at St. Sebastian Park.

Victor Omune fired the 13-time champions into the lead with a splendid effort in the 28th minute only for Semo Samuel to restore parity four minutes later.
