Mudavadi's bag of goodies to football clubs in Kakamega

Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, a guest at the Elijah Lidonde Cup final in Kakamega, praised the government's commitment to advancing sports.

"Sports is becoming better and better every day, and we thank our sportsmen," Mudavadi acknowledged.

During the final at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega Homeboyz triumphed 1-0 over AFC Leopards, with Davis Kasirye scoring the decisive goal in the 79th minute after substituting for Moses Shummah.

Despite both teams missing opportunities, the match saw Leopards finish with 10 men as Aziz Okaka received a red card in the second half for a second bookable offense.

Homeboyz claimed not only the trophy but also Sh1.1 million in prize money, while Leopards received Sh600,000.

In the third-place playoffs, Mulembe United secured a 2-1 victory against Nzoia Sugar, earning Sh350,000, while Nzoia pocketed Sh300,000.

In another match, Legends FC, coached by Alfred Imonje, secured a 3-0 win against 22Bet, with Victor Lidonde, Patrick Mugata, and Dannis Mukaisi, former internationals, scoring for the Legends.

Homeboyz had earned their spot in the final by defeating Nzoia Sugar 2-0 in the semis on Saturday, while AFC Leopards edged past Mulembe United with a 1-0 victory.

The tournament showcased not only on-field triumphs but also a commitment to supporting and recognizing the contributions of clubs and players to the vibrant sports culture in the country.
