13 schools set to contest Inter County sports Challenge in Nanyuki next month

•Laikipia governor Joshua Irungu will be the Chief Guest in the two-day event which will be sponsored by Avenue Hospital, Equity Bank, Warwick Hotel and Optiven among others will be present to support the event.

Thirteen schools have confirmed participation in the Private and International Preparatory Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Inter-County Sports Challenge at St Christopher's School Nanyuki slated for February 3-4

Nyeri's Good Shepherd, St. Christopher's School Nanyuki, Brickwoods, Potterhouse School, Chantilly, Riara, and Mpesa Foundation Academy are among the schools that have confirmed participation.

Others are —Aga Khan, Oshwal Academy, Nyahururu Elite, Moi Educational, Lukenya, Nova Pioneer and Tatu City among others. 

The event will feature various sports disciplines including swimming, Taekwondo, football, basketball, chess and skating.

Bernard Mathu, the director of St. Christopher's School and former deputy principal of Alliance Boys confirmed they are well prepared and ready for the event. 

He emphasised the significance of the games in fostering friendly competition, teamwork, talent development and sports benchmarking.

“ We are looking forward to a competitive event, which will bring together top schools from Nairobi and Kiambu as well as Kajiado. We expect more numbers from other counties as the event draws nearer,” added Mathu

He said the PIPSSA initiative, which was launched two years ago, has grown in leaps and bounds. "It's a  good opportunity to showcase the talent we have in various schools as we start this new year,” he noted. 

Kenya Aquatics Nyeri county chairman Tony Muthui urged schools and counties to participate, highlighting the role of sports in promoting tourism, wellbeing, regional integration, and peace.

"I urge other schools to grace the tournament and let our young people have an opportunity to showcase their talent in the two-day championship," he said.
