Kibera, Kangemi and Dandora are among Nairobi estates set to benefit from modern Astra turf pitches.
Gaming firm BetNare said grassroots football in the capital’s estates remains unexploited due to lack of such facilities and they are seeking to bridge the gap as they ride on the 2027 Cup of Nations’ wave.
Kenya is expected to stage the continental championships alongside Uganda and Tanzania through the Pamoja Bid.
In a statement, BetNare said: “In a bid to enhance grassroots football and foster talent development across the nation, BetNare proudly announces its commitment to installing Astra turf fields in areas lacking proper football facilities. This initiative aims to provide aspiring young footballers with adequate playing surfaces to hone their skills and realise their potential, ultimately contributing to the nation’s preparation for Afcon 2027.”
The betting company, who already have a partnership with the Boxing Federation of Kenya, promised to work with the Football Kenya Federation and the Ministry of Sports in actualising the project, which targets junior players.
“We appreciate there is talent in Kenya, especially in the estates. This talent can only be nurtured well if we have quality playing surfaces as well as training and playing equipment. As BetNare, we are ready to help in supporting the growth of this talent,” the statement added.
The announcement was made when the company presented Alex Morgan Osundwa with a Sh1m cheque and Kennedy Mwura with a 75-inch television, which they won after staking on the BetNare platforms.
