12 Kenyans set for American international coaching course in Dar

Shadrack Mutiso and Duncan Gitau are among the 12 Kenyan coaches invited for the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) International course scheduled for June 27-30  in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Other notable coaches are— Hillary Leboy, Mathew Nguri, Saumu Ally, and Valentine Wambui.

The programme will feature Level 2 and 3 courses in leadership for club managers, a clinic on mental performance and parent education sessions, dedicated to supporting children's swimming journeys.

Onken, known for his expertise and success in developing elite swimmers, will lead a comprehensive curriculum designed to elevate coaching competencies across East Africa.

Kenya Aquatics (KA) technical committee chairman, Omari Ali Omar said they were delighted to mingle with their peers from the region.

"This course is a unique opportunity for our coaches, swimmers and parents to gain invaluable insights from one of the best in the field. It’s a step forward in our mission to raise the standard of swimming in the region.”

With the ASCA International Course, East Africa is set to become a hub of swimming excellence this June, fostering growth and innovation in the sport across the region.

The event is being held in collaboration with Champion Rise, High-Performance Training Tanzania, Yingfa Swimwear and Kiunsi Sports Network.

Elsewhere, Mombasa will host a premier high-performance swimming training camp from August 5-10.

The camp, led by Olympian coach Abdulmalik Abulkarim promises to be a transformative experience for swimmers across the country.

The long-serving coach renowned for his expertise and tactical acumen, has guided top talents like Emily Muteti, one of Kenya’s leading female swimmers.

"This training camp is a significant step towards enhancing the skills and performance of our swimmers. We are excited to see the potential it unlocks in each participant," said Heize Kahindo, chairperson of Mombasa Aquatics and executive committee member of Kenya Aquatics.

The camp is expected to draw around 150 swimmers, categorised according to their skill levels. Each participant will receive a comprehensive report at the camp’s conclusion, detailing their strengths and areas for improvement.

Several prominent teams have already shown interest, including Seahorses Aquatics, Supermarlins, Nova Sharks, Torpedo Swimming Club, St. Christopher's School, Fusion Swimming Club and Orca.
