Bunyore Starlets chief executive officer Zachariah Amakhana and chairman Moses Mabwa have diferred over the upcoming club elections.

Amakhana wants the Board of Directors appointed to develop proper policies for the smooth running of Bunyore Starlets.

According to the CEO, the club’s constitution demands that elections be conducted every three years to pave the way for the new leadership.

“Our constitution is very clear. We must hold elections every three years. However, the current team has been in the office for six years having been elected in 2018,” Amakhana said.

He said the reason why they want fresh elections is to put in place a new leadership to steer Bunyore Starlets to a higher level in the 2024 /2025 Kenya Women’s Premier League season.

“We want officials who have a vision and can raise funds to keep the club afloat in the coming season.”

In a letter, Amakhana announced  14 positions open at the club, including that of chairman, currently held by Moses Mabwa. The CEO said he has been waiting for the season to end to streamline the affairs of the club.

“The chairman (Moses Mabwa) has been making crucial decisions in the club alone, and the time has come for change. We want leadership that will pilot the Bunyore Starlets to new heights,” the CEO noted.

“There is no reason to chest-thump in the name of the team. The club belongs to the fans, not individuals,” he added.

However, Mabwa dismissed the Amakhana assertions, claiming he was only seeking sympathy after being suspended from the club last year.  Amakhana maintained that he allowed the season to end peacefully before taking steps to streamline the team.

“Enough is enough and it’s time to make our team great and excel in the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL). Our team finished position seven with 17 points on the log,” Amakhana said.
