Kenya will send 40 swimmers to next month's Uganda Swimming Federation  (USF) National Masters Championship.

Nasser Motha will lead the team in training across various locations to hone their techniques and boost their fitness levels for the one-day event.

Motha said the masters swimming in the country has spread and is growing in numbers since its inception last year.

"Kenya has embraced masters swimming, which is fantastic in terms of maintaining engagement and a healthy lifestyle. These master galas are more than competitions. They are platforms for social interaction and global networking. I've formed lifelong friendships worldwide through masters swimming,” noted Motha.

He added: "We're proud to field a team and we owe it to Kenya Aquatics President, Maureen Owiti for their support and collaboration with East African nations.

"I'm also eagerly awaiting the Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championship in Burundi later this year," observed Motha. Owiti is also the secretary general of Africa Aquatics Zone 3.

USF president Tony Kasujja expressed excitement ahead of the competition. "We are thrilled to welcome our Kenyan counterparts to compete here in Uganda.

"Our participation in the inaugural Kenya Aquatics National Championship in March proved the impressive progress Kenya has made in its masters program.

"We are working hard to ensure a large turnout and we have secured numerous sponsors, including Genesis Sports Limited from Kenya."

KA Technical Committee chairperson Omar Omari underscored the significance of the event.

"I've been rigorously training for this crucial meet. This gala, sanctioned by Africa Aquatics, will serve as a qualifier for future World Aquatics events. Additionally, Kenya has submitted a bid to host the first-ever Africa Aquatics Masters Championship in Nairobi next year," noted Omari.
