Kenyan coaches begin Diploma course by USA Soccer Federation

More than 40 coaches across from different parts of the country are set to obtain a higher national diploma in soccer coaching, after a 4 day training conducted by the United States Soccer Federation in collaboration with the 365 Soccer Programme.

The training dubbed, "The Book Sports Ministry Training" is currently ongoing at Word of Life Center in Kabete, Kiambu County is aimed at sharpening the skills and mentoring coaches to help improve grassroots football country-wide.

The coaching clinic is which conducted by coaches from the USA in partnership with the USSF, commenced yesterday (Sunday 28th August) and will run to to 1st of August 2024.  

The clinic was officially opened by Extreme Sports Limited CEO Hussein Mohammed, who reiterated that there is a need to push the mainstream Football Agenda into the national agenda to improve the game.

“The most important thing is skills transfer; the coaches will transfer the knowledge to their assistants, and also uplift the players' skills. I thank USSF for the programme and hopefully, they make it a continuous programme to ensure the continuity in the passage of coaching knowledge," Hussein said.

The event has brought together coaches from Nairobi Bungoma, Kakamega, Kisumu and Mombasa, both men and women. They hail from women leagues, NSL clubs, division one county clubs and rookies from grassroots.

USSF coach Paul Marco from New York says the 10-year national diploma programme is highly rated and deals with passing, dribbling shooting and individual skills before integrating into more advanced training.

“The coaches showed great technical knowledge of the game on day two, and we are here to sharpen them and ensure they can improve their players and fellow coaches after graduating.

Hussein who doubles up as the Vice Chairman of Murang'a Seals FC, also called upon local leaders and schools to embrace such partnerships, and build football infrastructures in the grassroot level. He also wants them to push towards commercialising football locally and create jobs for the youth.
