Kenya's top gamers to battle for Sh1.5 million in prize money

A total of Sh1.5 million in cash prizes will be up for grabs during the newly launched Betika e-Sports tournament. 

The two-day event will feature various categories including EA Sports FC24, Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty Mobile and Tekken 8. The event will bring together top gamers and teams from across Kenya.

"We are excited to launch Betika e-sports showdown for the first time," said Betika Kenya Group CEO and MD, Mutua Mutava. "Our goal is to create an unforgettable experience for both players and fans."

Prize money for the finale includes Sh 25,000 for the winner, Sh 15,000 for the runner-up and Sh 10,000 for third place.

National finals offer a top prize of Sh 500,000, Sh 350,000 for second place and Sh 200,000 for third, with additional prizes totalling Sh 250,000 for fourth to tenth places.

Mutava highlighted Kenya's potential in the global e-sports landscape, noting, "Kenya is an incubator for talented spirited gamers poised to influence the game globally. We are at the forefront of the esports revolution."

He said Kenya's e-sports scene is rapidly growing, with local gamers achieving international success.

"I look forward to showcasing my skills at the tournament and competing with amateur gamers too," professional gamer Brian Diang'a said.

"Their raw talent and determination can catch you by surprise," said Diang'a, who is known as The Beast. 

Betika is offering cash incentives and mentorship opportunities from experienced eSports professionals. Registration opens on Friday 26.
