Swimmer Neo Olengo has set his sights Africa on Aquatic Zone Four Championship set for December in Nambia.

Olengo is in fine form after dominating a swimming meeting recently in Durban, South Africa, where he won four events. “I’m happy to have participated in the event in Durban. The fact that I will meet the same faces who were in Durban and having won four events boosts my confidence,” added Olengo.

Alengo won the 100m breaststroke in 1:09.95; 50m butterfly race (28.34); 50m breaststroke ( 32.50) and 50m freestyle (26.08).

Olengo is a student at Tuks High School in Pretoria, which is a renowned institution with access to world-class training facilities.

The facilities in the institution and coaching have helped him become a better swimmer.  “I’m swimming better than I was before and competing against the top South Africans in my age category. This institution has elevated my skill and stroke,” he observed.

In preparation for the Zone Four Championship, Olengo’s training regimen has intensified, ostensibly focusing on speed, endurance, and mental toughness. His days are meticulously structured, balancing academics with swimming sessions, gym workouts and recovery periods.

Kenya Aquatics (KA) executive committee member and chairperson of the Technical Committee, Omari Omar spoke highly of Olengo’s potential and ambition.

“Olengo represents the future of Kenyan swimming. His commitment and passion are unmatched and he embodies the determination needed to reach the highest levels in sports. We are incredibly proud of his progress and excited for his journey ahead,” said Omari.

Olengo looks ahead to be in the Kenya swimming squad for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“This event in Namibia is a stepping stone to other events in which I will be participating to ensure I make the team to the next Olympics.
