Kiambu County is keen to send a strong team of 20 swimmers to the Africa Zone 3 Championship in  October in Burundi.

Kenya Aquatics (KA) Kiambu County competition secretary, Shadrack Mutiso, was upbeat about the prospects that lie ahead.

“The swimming standards in the county have improved tremendously and we hope to have strong representation to join the likes of Nairobi and Mombasa among other counties,” added Mutiso.

Additionally, 35 swimmers from Kiambu will take part in the Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) National Master Championships in Kampala later this month.

Mutiso announced this when he released the calendar of events for the 2024-2025 season.

The season will officially commence with the KCAA Level One  Championship set for September 21-22 at the Regis School, Runda.

"We are excited to launch the 2024/2025 season with the Level One Championship as the main highlight. This event is a vital opportunity for swimmers to demonstrate their skills and secure their place in the upcoming competitions. We encourage all teams to prepare thoroughly and join us in making this event a memorable one," observed Mutiso.

This opening gala is expected to attract swimmers from across Kiambu County and neighbouring regions, including Nairobi, Kajiado, Murang'a and Machakos.

The event will not only serve as a platform for local swimmers to showcase their prowess but also as a critical qualifier for subsequent competitions.

Following the Level One Championship, swimmers who excel will advance to Level 2, scheduled for October 5-6 at the same venue.

'This structured progression will ultimately lead to the National Championships in Mombasa in mid-October, where the best of the best will compete for national honours," he said.

Mutiso said the  2024/2025 season also promises to be competitive with a league system, where teams will accumulate points based on their medal counts.

“This system is designed to keep teams engaged and striving for excellence throughout the season, with the top performers being recognised and awarded at the end of the season,” noted Mutiso
