The Kenya Academy of Sports Association (KASA) has selected a Form Two footballer Lilian Vaati from St. Bridgit Syomunyu Girls School in Lower Yatta in Kitui to join the Harambee Starlets U-17 team.

The girl was identified and picked to join the national team due to her stellar performance during the recent Lower Eastern Secondary School Games.

Consequently, she will be in the team that is set to fly to Spain in Europe for three weeks of intensive and advanced training. Before flying out, the team will undergo a two-week training at the Utalii College.

Vaati, who last December participated in the National Talanta Hela tournament in Nairobi County, met the Kitui CEC for Youth and Sports Phoebe Mutemi, who in turn gifted her a ball.

Mutemi said the county government of Kitui under the leadership of Governor Julius Malombe was keen to nurture sporting talent among the youth —both for recreational and economic empowerment purposes.

The CEC hailed Lilian Vaati who was in the company of her coach, Amos Mulwa, for her exceptional sporting success and for putting Kitui on the global map in terms of women's soccer.
