Ugandans to spice up Concours motorcycle category

The Uganda bikers will use several routes before reaching Nairobi for the prestigious event

Uganda Bikers Association and Pearl Bikers Africa will be the highlight of the motorcycle category during the Africa Concours d’Elegance scheduled for September 29.

The Uganda bikers will use several routes before reaching Nairobi for the prestigious event. The motorcycle category will feature 40 entries and the deadline for registration is September 13

Uganda bikers have been placed in three groups and the first will travel through Rwanda and Tanzania to Mombasa and end up in Nairobi. The Rwanda contingent will start on September 14th and will be joined by two riders from Zimbabwe before reaching Nairobi.

Another group will visit Mombasa before charging into Nairobi the day before the Concours. The third contingent will ride directly from Kampala to Nairobi with one overnight stop.

The Pearl Bikers Africa have drawn up an elaborate plan which will raise funds for the Nyumba ya Wazee which is run by the Little Sisters of the Poor at Kasarani to cater for destitute old people.

The group led by Gianfranco Masetto on his BMW R1200 GSA will straddle their machines on September 19 in Kampala to head for Bukoba. Their next night stop will be in Mwanza then Singida in Tanzania before entering Kenya at the Oloitoktok border control.

Masetto has participated in the event for 10 years. Other riders in the Pearl Bikers team include Edgar Mbabazi ( BMW K1600 T Tourer) and Enzo Amato (Honda Gold Wing)—resembling a car on two wheels.

UBA chairman Allan Mutumba will lead his team on a BMW R1200 GSA. Other UBA riders include Isaac Kalusiman who is a regular and newcomer Timothy Arinathaiwe (Honda Africa Twin CRF1000).

Ugandan bikers are expected to have covered over 2,775km by the time they return to their base.
