Aga Khan Academy, Supermarlins, and Crawford International School are set to renew rivalry at the Kiambu Aquatics Level Two swimming Championship slated for October 5-6 at Regis Academy.

The two-day event will act as a qualifier for the National Championship in Mombasa and the Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Championship set for November in Bujumbura.

Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi emerged top with 70 medals, during the Level-One Championships held last week at the same venue. Supermarlins, Crawford International School, Hydrofit Swim Club and Potterhouse School also posted strong performances.

Kiambu Aquatics chairman Gideon Kioko expressed excitement ahead of the tourney.  "We anticipate an even higher level of competition at Level Two with many top-tier teams including Seahorses Aquatics expected to field their best swimmers. This is where champions are created and we are eager to see the next kid on the blocks," he noted.

Kioko emphasised the need to improve the infrastructure of swimming events in the region, noting that plans are in place to acquire touchpads and System 7 technology.

"These upgrades are aimed at enhancing the professionalism of future competitions and ensuring they meet international standards," he said.

In addition, Kioko extended an invitation to all teams across the country to participate in the prestigious annual Inter-county  Championships scheduled for November.

Swimmers to watch out for include Alisha Imani and Leon Mwenda who were among the Level One highlights.

Kiambu Aquatics have also set qualification standards for the championship, giving swimmers clear goals to chase.

The standards are split into four levels, offering a fair and challenging way for athletes to measure their performance.

For example, in the women’s 12-13 category, a 50m freestyle time of 45.00 seconds is the qualification mark for Level 2 while in the men’s 14-15 category, it’s 42.00 seconds for the same distance.

Clubs from Mombasa, Laikipia, Kilifi, Meru, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Nairobi, Machakos and Kajiado are expected to grace the event.
