Veteran Michael Chemos is eager to make his return to the Kenyan volleyball scene after two years professionally away.

Chemos is back at Kenya Prisons after stints with Saudi Arabia’s Ali Yarmurk and Club Merge of Oman.

The experienced left attacker and opposite hitter believes his return is a huge boost for Kenya Prisons with the upcoming league season set to begin on October 31 in Nyeri.

“I’ve been away for two years, but I am impressed with the club’s progress. From what I’ve seen in training, the team remain as focused as ever,” Chemos averred.

He added: “I have had many injuries, but I’m working to bring myself back into the team to help with my experience. Reception, opposite hitting and blocking are my strong points. I believe the team will benefit greatly from my contribution.”

Chemos’ volleyball journey began in 2010 with Kenya Prisons, a period during which he earned a spot on the national team.

His professional career has seen him play in Japan, Turkey, Finland, Israel, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

His career highlights include emerging top scorer in Finland, second top scorer in Japan and winning playoff titles with Kenya Prisons.

“We aim to take over the league again this year and perform well at the Africa Club Championships,” Chemos added.

“I thank God for where I am, and I’m ready to put in more work to help the team.”

Reflecting on his time with the national team, Chemos noted the success of Kenyan players in Europe and Asia, while stressing the need for more exposure and support for the men’s team.

He also emphasised the importance of academies for junior players and called for more focus on U18 and U20 categories.
