Menengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru believes the best is yet to come from his charges even after thrashing Mwamba 94-9 in a Kenya Cup tie on Saturday.
It was the Nakuru-based side’s third win of the season, which puts them joint top with 15 points alongside champions Kabras and KCB.
But Weru believes tougher tests are coming and wants the side to improve in all facets of play.
“Great performance from the team. We were able to get a bonus point but we are always seeking ways to improve our performances and be at our peak during the playoffs as we seek to go all he way and grab the Kenya Cup,” said Weru.
Weru has been impressed by his new signings; hooker Fortune Arturo, flanker Amos Obae and centre Samuel Ovwamu.
“There is a freshness about the three (signings). They have complimented what we do. We are happy with their progress so far,” said Weru.
Oilers shift their attention to this weekend’s Enterprise Cup encounter against Daystar University.
Weru’s charges scored 13 tries with Kenya Simbas flanker Elkeans Musonye scoring four tries, Brian Achacha and Beldad Ogeta scoring a brace each.
Vincent Mwikhali, Omela Okwemba, Amos Obae, Chrispine Shitundo and Desterious Ifedha added a try each. Oilers led 26-9 at the interval.
Daniel Taabu delivered Mwamba’s points after converting three penalties. In a weekend of one-sided matches, champions Kabras thrashed Kisumu 137-7 at the Kakamega showground with Kenya Sevens star Griffin Chao scoring seven tries in arguably one of the biggest Kenya Cup scores in recent times.
Jone Kubu scored four while Patrick Lumumba had a brace alongside Walter Okoth and Alvin Mutachi. Hillary Salano, Jackon Siketa, Jeanson Misoga, Ray Maruti, Collins Indeche and substitute Humphrey Asiligwa scored a try each. Kubu added eight conversions.
