Rhamu town came alive as Al Ahly FC emerged victorious in the Jamhuri Day Cup Final after defeating Morothile FC 2-0 in a thrilling match.
The tournament, organized by the Sulekha Hulbale Foundation, drew teams from various wards across Mandera County, culminating in an intense final match that showcased talent and sportsmanship.
Nominated MP Sulekha Harun spearheaded the initiative, aimed at empowering and uplifting the youth through sports.
Speaking at the event, Sulekha emphasised the importance of engaging young people in positive activities to keep them away from societal vices such as drug abuse.
"Sports have the power to bring people together, instill discipline, and provide opportunities for growth. We will continue organizing such tournaments to nurture talent and uplift the youth in our community," she said.
The MP further pledged to expand the scope of future events to include more teams and wards to ensure greater participation.
The tournament, which began with elimination matches across different wards, provided a platform for young players to showcase their skills and passion for football.
The two finalists, Morothile FC and Al Ahly FC, battled their way to the top, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout the competition.
The final match was a spectacle, with Al Ahly FC dominating the game and securing a well-deserved win.
Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif who was in attendance, commended the teams and the organizers for their dedication and effort in making the event a success.
"I commend the level of sportsmanship displayed by both teams. I equally commend the organizers of the tournament for this wonderful initiative, which will go a long way in harnessing and developing youth talent," he said.
The governor also reiterated the county government’s commitment to supporting such programs that promote youth empowerment Spectators at the event lauded the tournament for bringing the community together and providing a platform for young players to shine.
Ahmed Abdi, a fan from Rhamu, remarked, "This event has brought excitement and unity to our town. We hope to see more initiatives like this in the future."
