Juma to use East Africa varsity games as build-up for next season

Juma is seeking to make Team Kenya debut and believes competing regularly will be key in achieving his dreams.

Sprinter Tyson Juma will use the East Africa University Athletics competitions to be held in Uganda from December 16 to 21 as part of his preparations for the 2023 All Africa Games in Ghana and the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Juma is seeking to make Team Kenya debut and believes competing regularly will be key in achieving his dreams.

He booked his ticket for the regional games after winning the 100m race during the Inter-university athletics competitions which concluded on Sunday. 

“I am happy to make the cut to compete in Uganda. If all goes well and I manage to compete there, I intend to use the games as a build-up ahead of next year,” Juma said.  

Juma is also bullish that he will perform well and bring the gold medal home.

“I believe I have all it takes to win the race…I want to bring the gold meal home,” he said.

The former Masinde Muliro University of Science and technology rugby player said he is also eyeing a fruitful 2023 season as he hopes to run under 10 seconds.

“I want to compete in major championships…I want to run sub-10 and I believe that’s possible,” he said.  

Juma, who trains at Moi Stadium, Kasarani with Japanese coach Nakajima Keisukei, said training is going on well and so far, his body is responding well.

“I train every day at Kasarani and so far, things are going well. My body is responding well and I’m positive,” Juma concluded.
