Athletics Kenya will conduct the national trials for the U18 and U20 athletes on April 7 and 8 at the Nyayo Stadium ahead of this year's African championships slated for Zambia at the end of the month.
The 1st Edition of this championship was held in 2019 at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast where Kenya finished second overall behind South Africa with a total of 44 medals (17 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze).
On the other hand, Kenya won the U18 title at the same championships.
The eligibility rules for the athletes taking part in the two-day championships require U18 competitors be aged between 16 and 17 years on December 31 of the year of competition (Born 2006 or 2007).
For the U20 category, the competitors must be aged between 18 and 19 years on December 31 of the year of competition (Born 2004 or 2005).
In addition, athletes must meet the set qualifying standards as set under the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) technical regulations.
The maximum number of events in which an U18 athlete can compete is two individual events plus one relay.
However, if the two individual events are on the track, only one may exceed 200m.
