Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala insists his dream for something special in the 100m race is still alive even as he prepares to line up for the semis tomorrow morning and final in the evening here in Budapest, Hungary.

Speaking after sailing the heats, Omanyala said he is looking beyond the semi-finals tomorrow morning with the final set for the evening.

“ I can’t wait for tomorrow. I feel good and I am ready for the battle. I know I have semis tomorrow morning but I am talking matters final because I am in good shape,” he revealed.

Omanyala finished second behind USA’s Noah Lyles after clocking 9.97 seconds in his heat. Lyles won the heat in 9.95 as Nigeria’s Itsekiri Usheoritse closed the top three positions in 10.17.

The other pre-race favourite USA’s Fred Kerley equally placed second in his heat after clocking 9.99 with Jamaican Oblique Seville carrying the day in a personal best time of 9.86.

Omanyala, who is the African record holder, was two days ago quoted as saying he feels psyched up for the race—from the preliminaries, all the way to the final—and he will give it his best shot.

“All I need is the best start in every race and I will be good. But again, 100m is not about the first 10 metres but the entire distance. So I have prepared for any eventualities. My first target is to reach the final, see who is there and plan better,” he was quoted as saying.
