A total of Sh5 million will be up for grabs at the third edition of Nandi Barngetuny Memorial Mountain Run set for January 7 in Tinderet, Nandi County.

The race patron Julius Melly has announced that the 2024 edition will have good prizes and expects it to be better than the past editions.

"The total prize purse is Sh5 million—distributed across various categories. The event has also attracted several sponsors," said Melly.

Melly, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Tinderet, said they are not leaving anything to chance to ensure the third edition is a success.

"We expect many guests from various countries in the world. The race will be one of a kind," he insisted.

The patron noted that the winners of the past edition have flown the country's flag high in various Mountain Running Championships and they are keen to discover more talent.

He cited Patrick Kipng'eno, who won the second edition, saying he went on to win gold for Kenya at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai, Austria in June.

"We are calling on all Kenyans and athletics lovers to turn up in large numbers during the event," said the Tinderet MP.
