After a no-show last year, the Eldoret City returns on April 21 with race director Moses Tanui calling on athletes to register in their numbers.

There were no funds to stage the 2023 event but Tanui said they have put necessary measures to ensure this does not happen again.

Speaking during the launch on Monday afternoon, the two-time Boston Marathon winner said: “I want to request the athletes to register in big numbers. We know we have had financial challenges but that is part of life and each one of us should adopt. Let us help those who can't raise the Sh1,500 registration fee."

Registration is open in Iten, Kapsabet and online at www.eldoretcitymarathon.com.

Tanui said details on the closure of registration and collection of running numbers will be communicated later.

“Upon registration, the list will be scrutinised by Athletics Kenya and the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to ensure a clean field,” he explained.

He called on retired athletes to guide the upcoming runners, especially with education on doping.
