AK to hold World U20 trials next week

The top two finishers in each category will be selected to represent the country at the World Under 20 championships to be held in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31.

• To enter for the trials, each athlete is required to submit an original birth certificate, original passport, student identification, national identity card, school release letter and parental consent.

•AK in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports Arts, and Social Development Fund established and managed 41 camps across the country to train athletes for the championships.

Athletics Kenya will stage trials for the World Under 20 athletics championships from June 26 to 28 at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

To enter for the trials, each athlete is required to submit an original birth certificate, original passport, student identification, national identity card, school release letter and parental consent.

The two-day competition is open to athletes aged under 20 years old.

“AK will apply stringent measures to ensure competitors meet these requirements,” said a statement from AK.

The top two finishers in each category will be selected to represent the country at the World Under 20 championships to be held in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31.

“Selected athletes must meet the entry standards for their respective disciplines as outlined by World Athletics,” AK added.

Athletics Kenya Youth and Development Committee chairman Barnaba Korir said they target to select a team strong enough to surpass the 10 medals Kenya won during the previous championships in Cali, Colombia.

The medals were three gold, three silver and four bronze.
