The Kenya women's volleyball team will be the second Kenya team to head to the Olympic Village today ahead of the Paris Olympic games.

Commonly known as the Malkia strikers, the team has been travelling for the last month as part of their preparations for the games.

First, they went to the Philippines for the FIVB Grand Prix before proceeding to Mirams where they've been holding training.

At Miramas, they played two friendly matches against local sides which they won.

The National side will be taking part in their fourth Olympic games having represented Kenya at the Sydney Games in Australia, Athens Games in Greece and during the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.

The National side is seeking to secure their first set in the games after failing in the previous editions.

However, they will face tough opposition from Volleyball powerhouses namely Brazil, Poland and Japan who are all in the same group.

Last week the team defeated local side Salon de Provence in straight sets of 25-14, 25-14,25-14 to win their second friendly match in Miramas and head coach Japheth Munala says he was impressed with their performance as well as on the things he had urged the team to work on.

"When we played for the first time here, we had a problem with our reception, but now we have managed to correct that, the teams we played with have helped us work on our issues, we are good now and we are ready to perform well at the Olympics," he said

Munala said they have covered almost everything they wanted to do in training including deciding on who to start the match and who come in during the play.

The team might not play another friendly match but Munala said they would welcome another team as part of their training.

The head coach remains confident they will step up during this game as they seek to make history.

"What I need from these players is to give 100 per cent of their performance, if they give that, I will be very happy, if that performance makes us win I will be very happy," he said.

Volleyball at the Olympics will start on Saturday at South Paris Arena One.
