Africa’s fastest man in 100 metres, Ferdinand Omanyala, is a happy man after finishing the season as the second fastest person in the world.

In a statement on Sunday, Omanyala said this is just but a testament to the hard work he puts in daily.

He went on to say that it would not have been possible without the support of his family and the entire team.

Omanyala added that the 9.79 seconds would not have happened without also the support of his sponsors and fans.

"What a season it has been, wrapping it up ranked the 2nd fastest man in the world with a time of 9.79 – a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience we put in day in and day out.

"I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, my coach, my manager, my sponsors and all the fans! Let’s keep chasing greatness!" he said on X.

Omanyala had a rough 2024 season where he registered successes and failures.

Speaking after the men’s 100m invitational in Brussels, which he cruised to victory, he admitted that the season didn't as planned but he will keep showing up.

This is after he could not participate in the Diamond League meets due to a previous ban in 2017, by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

Because of this, he did not get enough points to compete in the League's finals.

He had received a 14-month after he tested positive for betamethasone, a banned substance.

Omanyala explained that he was fresh from undergoing treatment for a back injury he sustained during a training session.
