Morans set for begin residential training this weekend

Kenya Morans will start a residential training on Sunday ahead of the FIBA AfroBasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

He said the training has picked up well ahead of the August 24-September 5 continental festival at the iconic Kigali Arena.

USA-based Ronny Gundo has already reported as well as Albert Onyango and Derrick Ongechi.

"The players will have a break (Saturday) but once they return, it will be all systems go as we steadily build the team towards the championships," said Gaya.

The Morans have been training at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium under Australia tactician Liz Mills assisted by Gaya and Abel Nson.

The rest of the squad includes Faheem Juma, Griffin Ligare, Bosire Victor, Victor Ochieng, Ariel Okal, Joseph Khaemba, Fidel Okoth, Valentine Nyakinda, and Eric Mutoro.

Ambrose Kisoi, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary revealed they have now secured the tickets for all the diaspora players.

He said Desmond Owili, Preston Bungei, (Australia), Joel Awich (USA), Tylor Ongwae (Denmark), and Tom Wamukota (Rwanda) will now be able to join the rest.

"We have now managed to secure the tickets for the players based outside the country. They should all be here. Those who bought their own tickets will be able to get their refunds," Kisoi said.

Kisoi revealed since Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani is unavailable due to junior athletics, the team will continue their training at Nyayo.

Kenya will open their Group C campaign against Cote d'Ivoire on August 25.  They meet Africa's top seed Nigeria two days later before winding up their preliminary round games against Mali on 29.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament and the top five from the show will book their ticket to the World Championship qualifiers.
