Fierce rivalry rekindled in Eliuld Owalo Cup opening games

National women's champions Kenya Ports Authority have been drawn against rivals Equity Bank Hawks in the Eliud Owalo Foundation-sponsored Invitational tournament.

Reacting to the draws released yesterday by the Organising Committee chairman, Ronny Owino, the Porters veteran tactician Anthony Ojukwu while sending out a warning to his rivals in the three-day show, said it was a good draw.

"We have great teams in the pool. It will give us good preparation as we will also use it to gauge ourselves before the playoff games," he said.

Another storming match-up of the day will see league leaders Nairobi City Thunder face off against Equity Bank Dumas in another fierce rivalry.

KPA, two-time national champions Equity Bank Hawks and Storms are in Pool A. Pool B has all varsity sides led by Zetech University Sparks, Strathmore University Swords and United States International University (USIU) Flames.

Dumas head coach Carey Oketch said his boys have been handed a tough draw but they are ready.

"That's a tough draw but we will prepare accordingly. It's an awesome tournament that has to bring the best out of us. Great test before the playoffs."

The bankers are in Pool B and will face off against league leaders Nairobi City Thunder and Strathmore University Blades.

National champions Kenya Ports Authority, Ulinzi Warriors and United States International University (USIU) Tigers are in Pool A.

The fixtures opening games of the 12-team event will be played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Langata on May 10.

On May 11, the matches will be played both at Langata and Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium. The semi and finals are set for Langata.
