Nairobi City Thunder have bolstered their roster with the recruitment of three seasoned international basketball professionals ahead of the Road to Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers.

William  Sidney, Michel Diouf and Uchenna Iroegbu are the latest recruits at City Thunder.

The team will represent Kenya in the continental tournament between October and December 2024 as they seek to enhance their chances.

Sidney, a power forward from Sacramento, California, joins from Spartans Distrito Capital in Venezuela. Sydney has 10 years of experience, including stints in the NBA, Greece, Romania and Cyprus leagues.

"This is my 10th year as a pro and I look forward to winning games with the Thunder," Sydney said.

Diouf, also a power forward from Senegal, looks forward to strengthening Thunder’s defence.

The four-time Basketligaen Defender of the Year during his time with Denmark’s Bakken Bears also leads the FIBA Europe Cup in points, rebounds and blocks. "I don’t care about stats. Just win. I’m a winner," Diouf emphasised.

Reinforcing his reputation as a defensive force, Iroegbu an American-Nigerian point guard, joins after a successful season with Al-Shamal in Qatar.

At 6ft, his speed, playmaking and leadership, honed during his college career at Stony Brook University and while representing Nigeria internationally, makes him a key asset for Thunder’s backcourt.

Head coach Brad Ibs expressed optimism after the arrival of the new signings. He said: "We are thrilled to welcome the three players to the Thunder family. They fit our playing style perfectly and together with our current squad, we aim to make Kenya proud with a deep run in the BAL tournament."
