The National Super League winners will be decided on the last day after Murang’a Seals edged Shabana 2-1 at St Sebastian Park on Sunday.
Muranga Seals cut Shabana’s lead at the top of the log to two points.
Shabana lead the log with 70 points while Murang’a Seals have accumulated 68 points. Shabana will host Kisumu All Stars at Gusii Stadium while Murang’a Seals will travel to Kisii for an encounter against Gusii FC next Saturday.
During the game which was attended by thousands of Shabana fans, who traveled from various parts of the country, Fabian Barthez and Ally Yusuf were on target for the hosts while George Onyango headed in Shabana’s consolation goal in the 67th minute.
Shabana coach Sammy Okoth said: “We are disappointed by the loss but as I said earlier, the battle for the NSL title is in our hands. We need a win in our last game and therefore, we must work hard this week ahead of the game against Kisumu All Stars.”
His Murang’a Seal counterpart Vincent Nyaberi hailed his charges and reiterated his earlier statement that the title race will be decided on the last day.
“Shabana are two points ahead of us but in football, anything can happen. Our focus is to win the game against Gusii in Kisii,” said Nyaberi.
In the battle for promotion/relegation play-off, Migori Youth edged Darajani Gogo 1-0 to enhance their chances of the slot to play KPL side Wazito in the play-off.
Ernest Oyugi scored the lone goal in the 79th minute. Migori Youth leapfrogged Mara Sugar to the third spot with 59 points while the cane millers have 56 points.
In the last games of the season, Mara Sugar travel to Taita Taveta for an encounter against Mwatate United while Migori Sugar will welcome Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Migori Stadium.
Mwatate United, under coach Evans Mafuta, edged hosts Vihiga United 2-1 at Mumias Sports Complex. At Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Mully Children’s Family beat Gusii FC 2-1 while Kisumu All Stars drubbed Kibera Black Stars 2-1 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
