Ulinzi Starlets interim coach Clive Otieno has issued a stern warning to Kenya Police Bullets ahead of their FKF Cup semifinal clash on Saturday at Dandora Stadium.

Otieno emphasised their determination to hold onto the cup, especially, with the league title slipping out of reach.

"We're focused on retaining the title. The league title seems out of reach, so all our efforts are geared towards defending our crown," Otieno declared.

Under the leadership of Beldine Odemba, Bullets currently lead the women’s Premier League (WPL) with an unbeaten record, amassing 43 points.

Vihiga Queens follow closely with 37 points, while Ulinzi sit in third place with 29 points.

Otieno highlighted the significance of the FKF Cup as the team aims for a historic third consecutive crown.

"We understand the importance of this cup. That's why we're putting in maximum effort to reach the finals," Otieno emphasised.

Ulinzi claimed their first title in 2021 (during the inaugural tournament), defeating Vihiga Queens 2-1. The tournament was not held in 2022 due to Fifa's ban on FKF.

They successfully defended their title last year, defeating Nakuru City Queens 3-1 at Nyayo National Stadium courtesy of Mercy Airo’s brace and a goal from Neddy Atieno.

Otieno praised the maturity of his players, saying it was crucial for their upcoming semifinal showdown.

“We have a lot of mature players who know what they are supposed to do. They have played at this level before and they understand the importance of winning this game,” he stated.

In their last encounter with Bullets, Ulinzi suffered a 4-0 defeat at Police Sacco Stadium on March 9, with Purren Alukwe scoring a brace and Becky Okwaro and Kach Mulusa adding a goal each.

Reflecting on the loss, Otieno acknowledged defensive lapses and stressed the need to focus on rectifying their past mistakes.

“In our last game, we made a lot of mistakes at the back. We conceded an early goal and the players panicked,” the tactician pointed out.

To address these issues, Otieno revealed the team's focus on shoring up their defence and improving their midfield and attack.

“We have been working through the ranks. We have solidified our defence to avoid blunders. We have also worked on our midfield and attack to be ready for the tough test coming,” Otieno pointed out.
