Kenya Police FC striker Tito Okello has warned FKF Premier League top scorer Benson Omalla not to pop the champagne yet because the Golden Boot race is far from over.

The South Sudan international, who led the cops to the FKF  Cup finals, with a 1-0 win over AFC Leopards in the semis, insists the three matches left are enough for him to dethrone the Gor marksman to the gong.

“The league may be done and dusted and we congratulate K’Ogalo for their win. However,  I won’t let the golden boot slip away easily,” said Tito.

Tito has 15 goals, one behind Omalla with 16 and believes either of the contenders including late entrant Mark Makwata of Kariobangi Sharks, who is on 13, can win the individual title. He also feels teamwork will play a big in his campaign.

“I missed two crucial games against AFC Leopards and Tusker in the league due to an ankle injury. Unfortunately, this is when K’Ogalo won the league and Omalla opened a one-goal gap,” added Tito.

The dread-locked striker headed in the lone goal against Ingwe in the controversial FKF Cup 1-0 semi-final at Police Sacco in a clash marred by insecurity issues on May 26. The match had to be restarted the following day from the 30th minute.

Tito is also chasing the FKF Cup Golden Boot and hopes to add two goals to his tally of four to beat AFC Leopards Rwandese forward Arthur Gitego’s five when they battle KCB in the final.

The former Gor Mahia man is on international duty with South Sudan in Lome, Togo for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“I am back from an ankle injury and fully fit for the challenge. I will take all four matches like finals but I have to concentrate on the World Cup qualifiers first and pray to God to keep me fit.”

Meanwhile, Omalla, who is also representing Harambee Stars in Malawi ahead of their World Cup qualifier clash against Burundi on Friday and Ivory Coast a week later, says he’ll up his game to avoid a repeat of last season.

Omalla finished second last season with 26 goals after former Police FC star Elvis Rupia grabbed it under his nose by scoring 27 goals— one better than the Gor star before moving to Tanzanian Premier League side, Singida Fountains.

On the other hand, Sharks forward Mark Makwata said he is delighted to be in the race and believes his experience, consistency and style of play will help him cross the line ahead of the anticipated photo finish.

Former AFC Leopards striker Boniface Ambani, whose KPL record of 26 goals was broken by Rupia last season, says Kenyan strikers have been inconsistent lately, and have to double their efforts to ensure a turnaround of at least 20 goals per season.

“Omalla and Tito may be the front runners but we can’t write off Makwata because he has been consistent with braces. He looks likely to continue the trend to the last game of the season,” he noted.
