Ndaraweta Girls and Tenwek Boys rule Bomet Central school games

The school principal said that as an institution, they want to blend academic and co-curricular activities because both go hand-in-hand.

Ndaraweta Girls and Tenwek Boys High dominated the Bomet Central Sub-county Tern Two school games staged at Chepngaina and Aisaik Secondary grounds on Saturday.

Ndaraweta Girls bagged football and volleyball titles while Tenwek Boys won football, volleyball, basketball and rugby titles. 

In the girls’ football, favourites Ndaraweta Girls were stretched to the limit before beating a stubborn Chepngaina 2-1 to emerge new queens. 

Jalody Chelangat and captain Shirlyne Cheptoo scored for the winners while Sharon Chepkirui netted the consolation goal for Chepngaina. 

"We are happy as a team for the win and I must say it has not been easy,"  Cheptoo said. 

Ndaraweta Girls School principal Norah Yegon lauded her team for portraying resilience, discipline and hard work during the tournament. 

"I am happy to win these two titles and this shows a sign of good things ahead. We are now preparing for the challenges ahead of us,” an elated Mrs Yegon said.

She said said as an institution, they want to blend academic and co-curricular activities because both go hand-in-hand.

 “Our players are disciplined and throughout the competitions, we have been insisting on discipline matters and that has led to success,” she remarked. 

In the semi-finals, Ndaraweta beat Kabusare Secondary School 2-0 while Chepngaina thrashed reigning champions Cheboneì 3-2. 

In the boys' competition, Tenwek had to employ all the tricks in the book to beat former giants Kabungut Boys Secondary School 2-0.  Tenwek notched the two goals via Veron Wanjala and Gideon Kipkulei. 

Team coach Gideon Kemboi admitted their opponents were equally good and gave them a rough time in their mission to retain the sub-county title.

“Our next target is the county games and we are sending an early warning to the cup holders Kaplong Boys to prepare for a long day,” Kemboi said. 

En route to the final, Tenwek beat Muiywek 1-0 while Kabungut dismissed Injerian by a similar margin. 

In girls’ volleyball, Ndaraweta beat favourites Chebonei 3-0(25-21, 25-17, 25-20) to be crowned champions.

On their way to the final, the winners overpowered Sibayian 3-1 as Chebonei trounced Kitaima 3-0 in the other semis tie. 

In the boys’ competition, Tenwek beat minnows Singorwet Secondary School 3-0 to win the title. 

In the semis, Tenwek edged out Mugango 3-1 as Singorwet put everything into the attack before eliminating a gutsy Kabungut 3-1. 

In netball, Chebonei hammered Ndaraweta Day 21-10 to be declared champions. 

In the last four, Chebonei beat Kiplokyi Girls 18-15 while Ndaraweta Day narrowly pipped neighbours Ndaraweta12-10 in the other semi.
