New twists as national games set for Kisii return

Kisumu City was supposed to replace Kisii but the move was halted.

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Nyanza Region will re-inspect facilities in Kisii on Wednesday as they seek to revert the national games to the county.

Kisumu City was supposed to replace Kisii but the move was halted.

The officials were to inspect facilities in Kisumu City on Tuesday but were redirected.

“We have been directed to inspect facilities in Kisii town and give a report. The games might be held in Kisii,” said KSSSA Nyanza Region secretary Tom Odhiambo. 

Venues earmarked for inspection are Kisii School, Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho and Gusii Stadium.

The national championships are expected to run between July 29 and August 6. A referees' clinic is scheduled for July 29-31 while teams are expected to arrive on July 30.

Action will start on August 1 and conclude on August 5.

Odhiambo said all appeals filed during the Nyanza regional championships have been dispensed.

“A jury has sorted out all the appeals. We now have teams that will represent the region at the nationals,” said Odhiambo.

They include Koderobara (boys’ football), St Alfred’s Alara and Nyakach Girls (football), Nyakongo Girls (volleyball), Nyakongo Boys (volleyball), Oyugi Ogango (netball), St Mary’s Yala, Friends School Anjego, Kisii School and Otieno Oyoo (boys’ rugby 7s), Nyakach Girls, Nyagechenche Mixed, Sidindi and Nyakongo Girls (girls’ rugby 7s).
