Rainbow FC are set to change their name to Glorious FC Kenya after dropping from the second-tier National Super League.

The club confirmed they’ll drop to FKF Division Two Eastern Zone next season and will be renamed Glorious FC Kenya.

The team, formerly known as Korogocho Youth FC, partnered with leading sports enterprise, Rainbow Sports in January 2022, and switched their name to Rainbow FC.

Their new partners Rainbow Sports franchise own two professional football clubs in Cameroon and the Czech Republic.

Led by veteran coach Stanley Okumbi, they were promoted to the second tier last year after winning FKF Division One Zone A.

They beefed up with youthful talent ahead of their debut in the 2023/2024 NSL season but finished in position 11.

Glorious FC will now operate under Michael Olunga Academy. MOFA, owned by Qatar-based Kenyan international Michael Olunga, has been scouting for a club to buy and is very close to sealing the deal.

MOFA  FC from Migori county, suffered a 3-0 loss in the hands of Fortune Sacco FC, on May 18 to miss the ticket to the National Super League. But with talks ongoing with Rainbow FC, it is only a matter of time before they join the second-tier division.

Previously, Rainbow maintained high standards, paid well and also aided players' moves to greener pastures, with captain Ryan Ogam recently joining Dubai's Third Division side, Elite Falcons.

However, Tyronne Karuki's move to Spain's Nastic Academy hit a snag, after both parties failed to agree on the transfer fee and the club was accused by fans of greed after they allegedly asked for large sums of money.

With time, cracks emerged and financial muscles reduced as players complained of non-payment of salaries and allowances for months.

The club admitted to facing financial challenges due to the rise in the cost of doing business and also couldn't meet the conditions set for club licensing, including having a youth and women's team.

Okumbi confirmed they bowed out due to the club licensing rules.
