Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed is concerned about the crisis in Kenyan football and has called for a quick fix to save the game.

This comes after the High Court barred the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) from holding an Annual General Meeting (AGM) or doing any act on behalf of the federation pending a petition hearing scheduled for October 17, 2024.

The timeline set by Fifa to conduct elections by October 17 is untenable since FKF members' mandate of the General Assembly comprising elected branch representatives will have elapsed by September 18 hence no quorum to host an SGM.

Kenya’s hosting rights of the African Nations Championship (Chan) and the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2027 are also in serious jeopardy as Kenya will be suspended by Fifa if they fail to comply with directives of meeting the election deadline.

Hussein also highlights that there will be no office for preparations and subsequent participation of the Junior Starlets at the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to commence on October 16, 2024, in Dominican Republic.

“We cannot afford to deny the young girls of this country the opportunity to not only showcase their talent but to market Kenya’s sporting prowess at the global arena," Hussein said.

"We call upon the members of congress of Football Kenya Federation to call for an SGM immediately, nominate an acting National Executive Committee that will set up roadmap for the elections and preparations of the junior starlets for the U17 Women’s World Cup."

"Alternatively, Fifa and the government of Kenya should set up a normalisation committee tasked with preparing and overseeing free, fair and credible all-inclusive FKF elections," Hussein said.

With a probable Fifa ban, Hussein, who also doubles up as Murang'a Seals assistant chairman, wants all stakeholders, especially the national government, to take urgent and deliberate steps of ensuring the football crisis is resolved urgently.
