Tusker FC's Duncan Ochieng attends goalkeeping workshop in Finland

The ex-Kenyan international will miss the club’s Uganda pre-season friendlies set for August 6- August 10 2024.

Tusker FC goalkeeping coach Duncan Ochieng is currently in Finland attending a goalkeeping coaching workshop with various trainers from across Europe.

The CAF C badge holder formerly played for Mathare United, Tusker, Sofapaka and Vietnam side Song Lam among other sides,  and will be seeking to improve his knowledge in the department ahead of the new FKF premier league season that kicks off next month.

The former Kenyan international will miss the club’s Uganda pre-season friendlies set for August 6- August 10 2024 in Kampala as he will be braving the cold in the Nordick nation.

Tusker signed Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka last month joining Brain Odipo and Edwin Simiyu in the shot-stopping department led by Duncan Ochieng.

The trio will be fighting to impress Ochieng for the first-choice spot after Kenyan international Brian Bwire departed for South Africa’s Polokwane City at the end of the 2023/2024 season.

Dunco as he is fondly known in football circles played 43 matches for Harambee Stars and was the last keeper to keep a clean sheet in AFCON 2004, when Stars overcame Burkina Fasso 3-0 in Tunisia.

The Mathare United product won the league with the slum boyz in 2008, before claiming two more titles with Tusker in 2011 and 2016.  In between he also won the Cecafa tournament with Harambe stars in 2013.

He switched to goalkeeper/coach in 2018 before hanging his gloves having played for two decades and has been in the frontline nurturing young talents through the  Kombora select elite soccer training programme. 

He follows in the footsteps of Bandari and Harambee Stars goalkeeping coach Jerry Onyango and Police FC coach Iddi Salim.

Jerry attended a CAF Elite Instructors Course in South Africa on December 2, 2023, while Iddi holds a Uefa pro licence and is arguably the most learned goalkeeping coach in Kenya.

The former Harambee stars goalkeeping coach has worked with top clubs including Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Bandari. He has also had stints in Europe and with Tanzania giants Yanga SC.
