Antony "Modo" Kimani joins Police FC as assistant coach

Born and bred in Korogocho, the slum boy had a great playing career spanning over12 years in the KPL

Antony “Modo” Kimani has been appointed the new Police FC assistant coach, after the departure of Iddi Salim.  

Salim, ditched the cops to take a new position as Botswana national team goalkeeping coach, this morning having taken the club through the preseason.

Modo who starts the job  with the FKF cup holders immediately has been unattached since leaving Ulinzi Stars at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract

Due to the FKF’s club licensing rules, Kimani who holds a CAF “A” license has been registered as the team’s head coach, but will technically work under Salim Babu.

Babu, a CAF B license holder, was registered as head coach, despite Iddi Salim holding a CAF A licence.

Modo is expected to be on the touchline on Sunday, when the Police battle Ethiopia Coffee FC in the Confederations Cup preliminary first round at Nyayo stadium, due to the CAF rules that also stipulate all coaches must be  CAF A or an equivalent of Uefa coaching badge holders.

The Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) alumni, led Ulinzi stars to position 12 in the FKF premier league, after flirting with relegation and was shown the door at the end of the season.

Born and bred in Korogocho, the slum boy had a great playing career spanning over 12 years in the KPLm having started his career with Mathare Youth.

The former Kenyan international defender captained Mathare United to the 2008 KPL title, before leading Harambee stars to a runners-up position in the  Cecafa cup in 2012.

The youthful coach later joined AFC Leopards, leading them to the FKF cup in 2013, before hanging his boots to concentrate on coaching in 2015 due to a nagging knee injury.
