Nairobi City Stars’ teenage left-back Rodgers Wasega wants to cement his slot in the starting 11 after making his full Kenyan Premier League debut against Bidco United on Saturday.

The teenager, who joined Simba wa Nairobi from Laiser Hill Academy in February clocked 90 minutes as the teams drew 1-1 at Dandora Stadium.

“I now look forward to featuring in a lot more games," he said. "With the coach's guidance, I know I will continue getting better and better."

“I am elated that, finally, I got to feature in the Kenyan Premier League after a seven-month wait," he added.

“It was a nice game. The intensity was high and I did not feel the pressure as much as it was my first game. I thank the coaches for trusting me and motivating me."

He made several key interceptions against United including a goal-line clearance with the game locked at 1-1.

“I just finished my run as the coaches usually insist. And yes, it led to a super save,” observed Wasega, the 23rd City Stars KPL debutant under coach Nicholas Muyoti since the 2021/22 season.

He was set to make his full debut in last season's penultimate match against Sofapaka but had to wait after cutting a finger on broken glass.

However, he featured in second leg fixtures against Shabana, Bandari, Gor Mahia, Bidco United, Kenya Police, Tusker, Nzoia Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz.
