Mafuta promises to guide APS Bomet to Kenya Premier League

Newly appointed Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet coach Evans Mafuta says his main objective is to lead the team to the Kenya Premier League.

Mafuta was unveiled on Wednesday and vowed to guide the team to the top-tier league. “First, we want to get maximum points in the first leg because I believe we have a competitive team. I’m also keen on a good performance,” said Mafuta.

APS will get their NSL campaign underway on Saturday against Mombasa United at Bomet Stadium.

Mafuta will be assisted by Darshan Lubembe and Mike Muhadia while Ali Ochieng is the strength and conditioning coach. Fredrick Onyango was named the goalkeeping coach and Kevin Shitu is head of stewards.

Mafuta, a Caf 'B' license holder, started his journey with Bungoma Super Stars, guiding them from Division Two to Division One before joining the defunct Eldoret Youth. He led the team to the National Super League.

He later joined the defunct Nairobi Stima, guiding them to the NSL/KPL play-off. After the team was dissolved, he coached Vihiga Bullets in the KPL and later Silibwet in the NSL. He also coached the defunct Mwatate United.

Mafuta said he is impressed with the new signings. The club signed 13 players in the summer transfer window.

The new signings include goalkeeper Salim Andale from Tusker Youth and striker Isaac Waliaula (Green Berets).

Defenders Cosmas Nyambane, Kevin Shakava and Benerd Kipkurui (AP FC ), Kentrix Kipkemboi (Kapkatet Youth), and Joseph Masibo (Bungoma Superstars) have also joined the law enforcers.

Other new signings are midfielders Mathew Andera (Bungoma Superstars), Tony Naibei (West Kenya), Brian Ngala (AP FC), Peter Masinde (Webuye Sportiff), Emmanuel Kemeli (Green Commandos) and Peter Masinde (Webuye Sportiff).
